Casio, a well-known manufacturer of shock-resistant watches, has unveiled its groundbreaking project, “Virtual G-SHOCK,” aimed at establishing an interactive community for enthusiasts of its iconic and durable timepieces. With a legacy dating back to 1983 when it introduced pioneering shock-resistant technology, the G-SHOCK brand has earned global recognition, solidifying its presence through collaborations with influential figures in various cultural domains, including fashion, sports, art, and music.
Community & Co-Creation
The Virtual G-SHOCK community is set to become a dynamic hub for collaborative projects and innovative experiences. The project’s inaugural phase involves the distribution of 15,000 limited-edition G-SHOCK Creator Pass NFTs via the Polygon blockchain, commencing on September 23.
The initial phase of the Virtual G-SHOCK community will be hosted on Discord, followed by the release of the limited-edition digital collectibles. Holders of these NFT passes will gain exclusive access to a variety of events and projects within the Virtual G-SHOCK community.
By actively participating in co-creation activities, community members have the opportunity to contribute to the platform’s development and ascend to higher levels based on their contributions. Increased contributions result in elevated privileges, such as priority participation in projects and NFT acquisitions. This tiered system aims to incentivize active engagement and ensure that dedicated members receive recognition and rewards for their involvement, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the community.
Casio has announced plans for the “G-SHOCK Creator Pass Color Design Contest,” where community members can influence the design elements of the pass, including colors, materials, and patterns. The winning design will become the official look of the G-SHOCK CREATOR PASS.
In March 2021, OpenSea made headlines by offering the first-ever watch NFT, “The Bigger Bang All Black Tourbillon Chronograph Special Piece,” in collaboration with Jean-Claude Biver and Swiss company WIseKey. Since then, several renowned brands, including Jacob&Co., Hublot (in partnership with Takashi Murakami), TIMEX, and TAG Heuer, have explored the fusion of iconic timepieces with NFT technology.
Casio’s entry into the NFT space with the Virtual G-SHOCK community represents a significant milestone in the growing convergence of traditional watches and blockchain technology.
